What color is the wire on a stereo? ›

The right-front speaker wires are gray, left-front speakers are white, right-rear speakers are purple, and left-rear speakers are green. Ground wires are black, antenna wires are blue, and amplifier wires are blue with a white stripe.

The USB port/AUX jack 1 is located on the instrument panel below the climate controls. When a compatible USB memory device, iPod® or auxiliary device is plugged into the USB port/AUX jack, compatible audio files stored on the device can be played through the vehicle's audio system.

Check for the 12V Wire

When you find one that shows approximately 12V, you have found the constant 12V wire, also known as the memory wire. It's yellow in most aftermarket head units.

Twisting wires together and then covering them with heat-shrink wrap or electric tape will suffice for car stereos. Connectors can be purchased that you simply slide both wires into and either crimp them together with pliers or twist them together with your fingers.

Some variants of the plug, especially cheaper versions, also give very poor grip and contact between the ground sheaths due to their lack of spring action. They are often color-coded, yellow for composite video, red for the right audio channel, and white or black for the left channel of stereo audio.

For most of our car stereos, the AUX is activated by pushing the 'Source' button until 'AUX' appears on the display and activating it by pushing down the cursor key.

Connect the radio to the battery by first clipping the alligator clip with the positive wires onto the battery's positive terminal, then clipping on the negative wire to the negative terminal. Turn on your car stereo to operate it.

ACC wire is an essential circuit in the automotive electrical system, with its full name being "Accessory wire." It is a power supply line designed to provide electricity to the vehicle's accessory devices.

Black and brown are normally going to be negative grounded to a metal part of the body of the vehicle. Red and Yellow are normally going to be positive grounded. As a general rule, if the wire is a color other than black or brown, it's probably hot (positive).

An “ignition” wire provides 12 volts anytime the key is in the ignition switch and turned out of the Lock position. If the vehicle you are working on had a radio, the existing “ignition” wire in the radio wiring harness will probably be red.

If correctly connected, the copper-colored wire (compared to the silver-colored wire) or the wire with the white stripe (compared to the wire with no stripe) should be your positive wire. If your amp or speaker has color-coded connections, the positive should connect to the red connection.

In the world of DC electronics, the accepted wiring convention is that the red wire carries the positive voltage, and the black is circuit ground. Usually the red is marked as + (plus) and the black is marked as – (minus).
