F1: Jos Verstappen Urges Oscar Piastri to Fight Back! | Protecting Reputation in Formula 1 (2025)

Oscar Piastri's F1 reputation is under fire, and the advice is clear: fight back! It's a stark reality check for the young Australian driver, whose recent performance has raised eyebrows in the Formula 1 world. Just a few races ago, Piastri held a commanding 34-point lead over his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris. But the tables have turned dramatically.

This shift in form has not only cost him ground against Norris but has also opened the door for Max Verstappen, who is now charging towards a potential fifth consecutive championship. With only four races remaining, Verstappen is a mere 35 points behind Piastri, who now trails Norris by a single point.

Jos Verstappen, Max's father, offered some strong words, speaking to De Telegraaf. He pointed out the unexpected dip in Piastri's performance, questioning whether the young driver has lost his edge. "I find it quite strange what's happening at McLaren. Surely Piastri hasn't suddenly forgotten how to drive? If I were him, or his manager [Mark Webber], I'd definitely put my foot down internally."

Verstappen Sr. highlighted how this period of underperformance has damaged the perception of Piastri as a composed and consistent driver. "Because now everyone's wondering if he can handle the pressure. And that's not good for your own reputation, Piastri's in this case," the 53-year-old added.

But here's where it gets controversial... There have been whispers of potential issues within McLaren, with some suggesting Norris is receiving preferential treatment. These rumors even include far-fetched claims of sabotage to Piastri's MCL39. Verstappen, while avoiding these speculations, reiterated his concern that Piastri's once-bright image has been tarnished.

"It might automatically smell like that, but I have no insight into it," the former F1 driver said. "But if I were Piastri, I would fight back now. Everyone assumed he would become champion, and that perception has changed very quickly."
