Ready to level up your storage game? Samsung is already giving us a sneak peek at some exciting new SSDs, and one, in particular, could be a game-changer for your portable gaming setup. Let's dive in!
First up, we have the Detachable AutoSSD. Now, this one's a bit of a curveball. Designed for the automotive market, it uses the E1.A form factor. But here's where it gets interesting: the SSD controller and NAND are separated. Samsung claims this innovative design improves heat dissipation, extends the product's lifespan, and makes upgrades a breeze. While most consumers won't directly interact with this, it hints at potentially cool future tech.
But the real star of the show for many of us is the PM9E1 M.2 22x42 SSD. This is an OEM drive in the M.2 2242 form factor. What's the big deal? Well, it appears to be one of the first M.2 2242 PCIe 5.0 drives announced, and it's one of the few in this form factor with DRAM onboard. Samsung is boasting some seriously impressive speeds: up to 14.8 GB/s read and 13.4 GB/s write, thanks to their Presto SSD controller and V8 TLC V-NAND. The PM9E1 will offer up to 4 TB of storage, which means it's a double-sided drive.
This is a critical detail: Double-sided designs can be trickier to cool. However, for those with handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck, this could be one of the best performance options available, providing ample space for your entire game library.
What do you think? Are you excited about these new SSDs? Do you think the detachable design will catch on? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Do you think the double-sided design will be a problem for cooling?
